More Downed Trees & Erosion & Other Updates

    Storm Damages

The recent storm has once again knocked down a couple more trees on Acoma. The HOA is already on top of these and they should be cleared soon.

    Park Erosion

The clean up around the playground area and sandlot is still underway. We had a few supply shortages with the railroad ties that will be placed around the sandlot as well as on the north side just west of the playground they will be used to create layered platforms to make large steps into the park. The erosion holes should be filled with concrete any day now which will prevent those from having any further issues.

    Walkway and a Table

The walkway / path into the larger park (main photo) on the west side had flagstone pavers that were very loose and on uneven ground. We have decided to remove the pavers and instead use decomposed granite aka “baseball field dirt.” It doesn’t become muddy like regular dirt and it’s easy to maintain and replenish when needed. The curbing at the bottom needs a bit of work still however.

We also replaced the table in the ramada on the south (smaller) park. The previous table had much rust due to the rubber coating peeling off and the table overall was not too stable.

    Landscaping

We are also aware that there are weeds around the community and some trees and bushes that need trimming. These are being addressed, albeit a bit longer than we’d like, due to the storms and our landscaping being shorthanded due to covid.

Let’s Keep Our Community Clean and Safe: A Friendly Reminder!

Hey neighbors! We all love the place we call home, right? Our community offers so much — from green parks to friendly faces. But there are a few things we need to remember to keep it that way. From picking up after our pets to respecting shared spaces, let’s all do our part to make sure this is a place we’re proud to live in!

    1. Keep It Clean: Don’t Leave Trash Behind!
We’ve all seen it: a stray soda can here, a snack wrapper there. It’s easy to forget, but littering affects us all. So next time you’re out for a walk or hanging out in the park, make sure that empty coffee cup or snack wrapper makes it into the trash. It’s an easy way to help keep our community looking great!c

    2. Respect the Parks – They’re for Everyone!
The parks are a shared space, which means we all need to be mindful of others. Whether you’re enjoying a picnic, playing a game of catch, or just soaking in the sunshine, it’s important to respect the environment and the people around you. Also, please do not ride any motorized vehicles or equipment (such as ATVs, dirt bikes, or scooters) within the parks, as they can cause significant damage to the grounds. Let’s all be considerate so everyone can enjoy these common spaces!

    3. Picking Up After Your Dog (and Yourself)
We love pets around here, but let’s be honest — nobody wants to step in something unpleasant. Always scoop the poop and make sure your dog’s waste is disposed of properly. And keep your dog on a leash while in the park! This helps keep everyone safe and ensures that our furry friends are under control. To make it even easier, we’ve got bag dispensers posted throughout the community. If you’re in need, grab a bag — and if you notice that the dispensers are running low, feel free to pitch in! Just donate any extra grocery bags by stuffing them into the bag holder so others can use them too. It’s a simple act that keeps our spaces clean and usable for everyone.

    4. Stop Vandalism, Theft, and Damage – They Cost Us All
A quick reminder: damaging property, stealing, and graffiti are not only disrespectful but costly. These activities affect the whole community, and the repairs often come out of our association fees. So when you see suspicious behavior or damage to our common areas, speak up! These activities will only drive up our fees, and nobody wants that. Let’s all do our part to keep the community safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone.

    5. Chickens/Poultry Are Not Permitted
Just a quick reminder that chickens and poultry are not permitted in the community, according to both HOA bylaws and the City of Surprise law. While it might seem harmless to keep a few chickens, the feed and water can attract pigeons — and those pigeons can cause a lot of trouble! They are a health hazard that leads to roof damage, the spread of disease, and an overall mess. Their acidic feces can cause significant material damage to roofs, often leading to leaks and costly repairs. Please refrain from keeping poultry, and let’s keep our community safe and clean for everyone!

Let’s all work together to keep our community safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone. By respecting these simple rules, staying engaged through our website, and providing feedback, we’re not just following guidelines — we’re creating an environment where everyone can thrive. Thanks for being awesome neighbors!

  • Update on Landscaping – April/May 2022

    Update on Landscaping – April/May 2022

Jim from Poor Daddy Landscaping has been asked by the Board to give updates on the current state of the community grounds and progress done to take care of it. Here is a list of updates from him:

    Weed Spray

    • We have completed the weed spray and the weeds have died. We are in the process of removing the fallen and dead weeds and will complete this within the next week.  Please see photos of the areas of concern where weeds have been removed.

    Greenbelt/grass area

    • These areas have been addressed for weeds.  We have turned the water on to these areas after fixing some irrigation issues.
    • Once the grass has a good base of new green growth, it will be fertilized for the Bermuda grass.  After fertilization has taken effect, the grass will be healthy and weekly mowing will commence.

    Irrigation

    • We are continuing to make the necessary irrigation repairs throughout the community.  The repairs will be completed within the projected time frames.  These repairs should assuage the water issues facing the community.
    • We have repaired several major leaks that were a concern.

    Tree Trimming

    • We have trimmed 1/3 of the trees in the community.  They are all starting to bloom and grow due to the change in season.  We will continue to trim as scheduled and needed.
    • There are several stumps on the property that need to be ground down.  We will provide you with an estimate for this service within the next week.

    Monuments

    • Prior to the Easter event, we provided additional flowers in both monuments.
