More Downed Trees & Erosion & Other Updates

    Storm Damages

The recent storm has once again knocked down a couple more trees on Acoma. The HOA is already on top of these and they should be cleared soon.

    Park Erosion

The clean up around the playground area and sandlot is still underway. We had a few supply shortages with the railroad ties that will be placed around the sandlot as well as on the north side just west of the playground they will be used to create layered platforms to make large steps into the park. The erosion holes should be filled with concrete any day now which will prevent those from having any further issues.

    Walkway and a Table

The walkway / path into the larger park (main photo) on the west side had flagstone pavers that were very loose and on uneven ground. We have decided to remove the pavers and instead use decomposed granite aka “baseball field dirt.” It doesn’t become muddy like regular dirt and it’s easy to maintain and replenish when needed. The curbing at the bottom needs a bit of work still however.

We also replaced the table in the ramada on the south (smaller) park. The previous table had much rust due to the rubber coating peeling off and the table overall was not too stable.

    Landscaping

We are also aware that there are weeds around the community and some trees and bushes that need trimming. These are being addressed, albeit a bit longer than we’d like, due to the storms and our landscaping being shorthanded due to covid.

  • 2nd Attempt Election Results

    2nd Attempt Election Results

It was a very close call, but we did meet quorum this time with the minimum of 28 submitted ballots.

Jason Etzel and Anthony Wrinkler were voted for and will remain on the Board. Jason has been President for most of the past 2 years, while Anthony was appointed to the Board by the current Board members, Jason and Wayne to fill in the 3rd seat. This Board was taken down to a 3 member Board last year.

The Board has agreed to remain in their current seats with one exception, Anthony will now occupy the role of Treasurer. Please keep in mind however, while we do have our individual roles, that this Board also works closely together, along with our Community Management team, we all try to help out each other and ensure we’re all in the know and double checking details, invoices, financials and more. This is how things should be handled and will remain being handled for as long as we are on the Board. This is why the community has been looking better and why we are getting things done.

Together this Board has added new activities, tables and benches, and solar lights to the parks or adding the message board and this website to post community updates to, and more.. and of course, we’re not even close to being done.

  • Happy Easter Saturday!?

    Happy Easter Saturday!?

On Saturday, April 16th, starting around 10:00AM, the community will celebrate Easter by having fun in the large park. We figured Saturday would be better day to get the community together, that way families can have Sunday for doing their own activities. There are a couple of residents, Brittany and Kayci, that have volunteered to be a committee and will plan and run the event. There will be plenty of candy, food, drinks and fun for all! Please see below for more details and what you can do, should you want to help out.

    Details

There will be a bounce house and other activities (yet to be finalized) but may include bag toss game, face painting, pillow case/potato sack race, and Easter eggs will be hidden around the park for the little ones to find. Some eggs will contain candy, others may contain small toys or erasers and in a few you just may find a limited edition Greenway Parc 2 token. These tokens can be used to get special gifts or candy, and can also be taken home as a collectable keepsake in itself. There will be more ways to find or earn tokens, such as playing/winning activities or games, pulling one from a grab bag, or maybe just for being a great person!

    Limited Edition Tokens

As stated above, there will be different way to earn these tokens, which our very own community HOA President himself, Jason, will be making them on his fancy laser and will feature the community name and year (pictured below). They will be limited to 25 and will be numbered on the back and are about the size of a casino chip or dollar coin. There will also be one special gold token, which the lucky finder of said token will receive an extra prize (to be announced at the event).

    Food & Drinks

Besides the candy in the hidden eggs, we’ll also have extra candy to hand out and will serving fried chicken and pizza, macaroni or potato salad, and chips. Water and soda will also be provided. If anyone, wants to bring other food, please do so! But remember to bring enough to feed at least 30 residents or more. One resident has already mentioned they will be bringing frozen Otter Pops and Capri-Sun drinks. Plates and napkins will also be provided. If you have extra tables or chairs, please let the Board know as they may be needed.

    Volunteers Needed

The Board would also like to know if there are any residents that have talents in face painting or possibly creating balloon animals and would like to volunteer for the event? If would like to help out, or if there are other suggestions you have, please contract the Board.

  • Newly Painted Park Ramadas

    Newly Painted Park Ramadas

The ramadas in the parks have been newly painted with a cleaner look. As the colors of the community have more earthly tones, we removed the red color and we kept the green for the main color and yellow to match the table and benches. The basketball hoop post was also re-painted in yellow.

    Introducing Poor Daddy’s Landscaping

    The State of the Community

Good help is hard to come by. As President of this community’s Board of Directors, I can honestly say that Wayne (VP) and myself have constantly tried to get our past landscaping vendor to do what they were contractually obligated to do. In fact, Wayne has personally walked this community almost everyday for over the past 1 year and a half watching the landscaping vendor, taking notes, talking to them, pointing things out, I mean you name it. And despite those efforts, the vendor just didn’t come through. Promises were broken, plants were not watered, trees did not get trimmed, etc, etc etc. Of course, to some in the community it makes it look like we’re not doing our jobs as Board members.. but I assure you we are on top of things. And we always set out to do the best for this community. But sometimes you need to play things out. Let the vendors do their jobs that they were hired to do.

But when things aren’t working, when vendors fall short and adjustments need to be made, what are you to do? Do you give them and second chance? A third chance? Do you call supervisors or upper management? Yes, yes and yes. And then what? Things still don’t look up to par and we get violations from the City of Surprise. Not only does this make us look bad, it makes us feel bad, because we’re honestly trying to get things done and stay on top of our vendors. But we can only do so much, the vendor needs to do their jobs as well or things don’t work.. things don’t get done. So.. then we must find a new vendor and start over. Well that has now happened.. again! This is the second landscaping team we’ve let go because they did not perform as they should have.. not even as a little bit. And they were a large, very large company that handles properties across the country. Since becoming Board members there is one thing Wayne set out to do.. make this place look great again. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do! And sometimes that means changing vendors until we find the right one. I don’t know if being a large vendor has played a part in there abilities to do their job, but I do know the blame always went up the chain. The vendor before them was a large company as well. So this time we decided to find a different company, a smaller company, one that we can directly communicate with the owner, and one where the owner is not only out there working himself, but also other family members and they all take pride in their work. And it’s already starting to show.

Introducing our new landscaping vendor, Poor Daddy’s Landscaping

Jim, owner of Poor Daddy’s Landscaping, has taken time to write a note to the community because he wants you to know what he and his team are doing and from photos you’ll see what they have already done.

    Good Evening,

Below you will find some pictures of the progress we are making on the cleanup of the community.

As you already know, there are some challenges and concerns with the current state of the landscape at Greenway Parc II.  This is due in part to the lack of quality work from the previous landscape company.  Poor Daddy’s Landscaping, while somewhat slower, will continue to work diligently to complete the beautification of this project with higher levels of quality and care than in previous years.

As to the timeline of completion, we hope to have the entire property up to a standard both the residents and board would approve of by the end of February 2022.  From that point, the maintenance should be much less invasive and more manageable.  Currently, service is 1-2 days per week to address these issues.  After the original cleanup is complete, service will continue 1 day a week on Thursdays each month.

The City Violations will be addressed within the timeline provided.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

    Jim

If you see Jim and his team working, please give them praise! However, if you have any questions we do ask that you leave them to their work and ask your questions to the Board or community management.

  • More Solar Lighting

    More Solar Lighting

We know there are some residents that like to utilize the park at night. where to play basketball, sit at the benches or just to walk around. While we encourage use of the park, even at night, while being respectful of neighboring homes and keeping the sound down, of course, we do want to make it a safe as possible. A months back, we added one solar light as a sort of trial, which seemed to be working successfully, so we then added one to the ramada where the table is. Again, successful. The ramada in the smaller park will be getting one as well (plus a new table) soon.

Now we have added another solar light to give some focus to the basketball court. We didn’t want anything too bright as to shine in players eyes as they shoot the ball, but we wanted to bring enough light as well. We may added another light on the opposite side of the court as well, if needed.

  • Light Shines on Our Monuments

    Light Shines on Our Monuments

We have added some solar lights to the monuments as you enter from Acoma. These lights not only shine a little light on the community name but also are part of our efforts to improve the community visuals and show nearby residents and visitors that we care about our community and how it’s viewed by others.

As part of those efforts to improve the community, we also are trying to make it safer. We already added one large LED solar light in the park to help bring some light to an otherwise darker area. But we have seen various people using the ramadas at night and it is quite dark, so we also added a solar light there. The smaller park’s ramada will be getting one as well shortly, as well as a new table.

  • HOA Board Election – April 2021

The election is right around the corner and we wanted to spotlight those who are on the ballot.

We currently have two open seats and two residents on the ballot, Wayne Talbott, our current Vice President and Leah-Ann Garza.

Please read what they have to say about our community and why you should vote for them.

The annual meetings with election results will be held on May 25th at 6:00PM at the large park and via Zoom. Click here for details.

    Wayne Talbott

As your current Vice President, I have helped get this community back into shape by personally overseeing our landscaping vendor, keeping them accountable for their work and ensuring things were done correctly.

Because of the hurdles from the previous landscape vendor and the violations given to us by the city, things definitely got off to a slow start. But now this community has never looked better and that’s all thanks to the work that has been done within the past few months. Just think what we can accomplish together with more time!

    Leah-Ann Garza

I’m a previous business owner and have worked with multiple HOA organizations.

Though our community has come a long way in the past few months, I am committed to doing my part to improve the overall aesthetics even more. For example, getting the rest of the walls painted can make a huge difference!

I also feel that monitoring our funds and how they are spent will play an important part for the future of this community and will ensure it can continue to thrive for many years to come.

    Fun Facts About Surprise AZ

This is Surprise is a city in Maricopa County, in the U.S. state of Arizona. The population was 30,848 at the 2000 census; however, rapid expansion has boosted the city’s population to 117,517 at the 2010 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 85.6 square miles (221.1 km²).

    Founding Mother of Surprise AZ

The city was founded in 1938 by Flora Mae Statler, who named it Surprise as she “would be surprised if the town ever amounted to much”. Surprise officials previously thought the city was founded by Statler’s husband, real estate developer and state legislator Homer C. Ludden, but in 2010 property records were discovered which listed Statler owning the land before she met Ludden.
